The Bat and the Cat…
So now that the I Am Suicide arc is done we now find out what is going to happen to Catwoman. Standing on a rooftop with Batman, he tells her that the death penalty has been dropped, she’s now serving life without parole and she will be sent to Blackgate instead of Arkham. Catwoman tries to convince Batman to give her just this one night and tells him to look how it shines like a diamond in the sky. The art in this issue is fantastic by the way. Has that realistic feels to it, with just enough detail blended with great shading that has that watercolor look to it. Goes perfect with the story.
She goes on to say how she claims to have killed 237 people and Batman tells her again that he knows that she didn’t and that he will prove it. Catwoman says that he will not prove it and that if he gives her tonight, she will tell him everything in the morning. He says she will just run and she basically agrees with him saying it’s what they do. She runs, he catches her. This doesn’t stop him from giving her the night of course.
So what shall we do tonight?...
Same thing we do every night Catwoman… look up into the sky at that bright shining bat signal... and go take down some bad guys! Which they continue to do so and it’s a lot of fun. The banter going on between Batman and Catwoman and the way she distracts some of the bad guys while Batman does his thing is quite entertaining. Catwoman then wants to do something she enjoys, which of course is a little CAT burgling. I thought this was a little weird that Batman would even go along with this at all, but we later find out that Catwoman owns the apartment and they’re stealing from… her. It’s her life savings in the form of diamonds. Which she proceeds to throw into the air while she quickly seduces Batman into some sexy time.
I’ll be honest, I was not looking forward to this issue after seeing the first few pages. I’ve grown a little tired of the Catwoman and Batman romance. But as I kept reading I really enjoyed the way it all panned out. The way she tags along with him to take down all the bad guys of the night and even the way he does some cat burgling with her which threw me off! But was explained with it just being Catwoman’s apartment and her just wanting to have some fun. Then there is the art which I mentioned before. Loved it. Fit the tone of the story wonderfully.
