Max Lord: Rebirth
This issue of Justice League is a Tie-in for Justice League Vs Suicide Squad where we get to learn a little more about Max Lord. We open up with Max being interrogated by Amanda Waller after being taken in for attacking a train. Waller is breaking down Lords achievements and red marks on his file, breaks down his father and what he did and why he fell as a business man. Flash back Twenty-three years and we see Lord's mother explaining what attracted her to his father was his power, but his compassion made him weak. She makes Max promise to never let his compassion get in the way of necessity and when you find people not worthy of power take it from them. Which he has done just that his whole life, taking out the Black King of Checkmate to take his place. Once Waller tells Max what her plan with the interrogation is, Max starts to push a suggestion that she wants to reveal her secrets. Where she tells him the Lost Prisoners are being held in the Catacombs. When Max tries to get the location of the Item, Amanda fights off his mental manipulation and calls in some guards. Unfortunately for Waller with a suggestion Max is escorted from the the building.
I didn't know much about Max Lord prior to reading this issue, so it was nice to learn about a character without taking anything away from the main story to give it to you. Tim Seely did an amazing job with this story and the art itself is worth the cost of the comic.
