Nightwing #12 SPOILER REVIEW

Writer: Tim Seeley
Artists: Marcus To and Chris Sotomayor
Price: $2.99

Good ol’ fashioned murder mystery…

Nightwing now has his hands full in Bludhaven as he is trying to figure out who is setting up The Run-Offs. A support group for former super-villains. First he tries talking to the police at the most recent crime scene. Then he talks to Jimmy who volunteers and helps the Run-Offs support group. Nightwing needs Jimmy to get a good lawyer for Shawn as well as get a meeting set up with the Run-Offs. It’s not so easy for Nightwing since they don’t trust him and are even scared of him. But it’s this meeting that Nightwing finally get’s some answers. Turns out someone has been approaching the Run-Offs individually and offering them work, and it started with Gorilla Grimm. Who agreed to meet with the employers but turned down the offer when he found out it was dealing weapons used to take down superheroes. The men Grimm met with are also the ones who are slowly being murdered. Another connection!

The Marcus Casino…

Nightwing decides to check out the Marcus Casino because that is where Carter Forsyth is. Forsyth was one of the men at the meetings with Grimm. The rest of the Run-Offs decide to help out and now consider Nightwing a Run-Off as well. But just as they confront Forsyth, they are interrupted by The Orca! A past member of the Run-Offs who left because of the way she looked and because she was sick of everyone else's “slick moral preening.” Nightwing believes The Orca must have accepted a job offer when all she wanted to do was impress her new friend and distract them while Carter Forsyth get’s taken by someone on a motorcycle in a devil’s mask!

The Confessional

Loving this story arc of Nightwing! I like the whole murder mystery side of the story, I’m just waiting for some kind of twist to happen soon. The relationships Nightwing is making makes me think this could lead to his own little life away from Batman with his own characters and villains. Which is something I’ve wanted to see for awhile. The art unfortunately falls a little short for me though. Maybe I’m just not a fan of the clean style that is being used. But it’s also the colors as well. At some points they just seem bland and I also don’t enjoy the lack of detail. I’ve said it before and I will say it again, just a little bit of detail goes a long way. Throw something in the background! Don’t just have it be one boring color. This would have been a perfect issue for me if not for the art.

Rating: Holy ★★★★★★★☆☆☆
