The Bane Story We’ve Been Waiting For...
I don't know about you, but I was kind of let down by the I Am Suicide story arc. It had some interesting ideas and wicked art, but the way it all unfolded was a little boring. Plus we didn't get to see Batman finally take down Bane! But now he may not have a choice.
The issue starts off with scaring us just one more time with what looks like Bronze Tiger being shot and possibly killed in his hotel room. If you remember last issue, the Robin's were founding hanging in the Batcave and looking a little dead, but thankfully this is not the case. We see them being held safely in Superman's Fortress of Solitude right after Bronze Tiger goes down.
Throughout the rest of the issue we see Bane's goons taking down those closest to Batman continuing with Selina, and finishing with Commissioner Gordon and Duke. Now I think Batman will either be offered a deal, or he will fight Bane and finally take him down. Please let him fight Bane!
While this is all going on Alfred is busy sneaking Gotham Girl into Arkham to start her sessions with Psycho Pirate. I really enjoyed the way he gets her in, almost had me for a second. Alfred disguises himself as Dr. Arkham wheeling Hush into the Asylum. Only Hush is really Gotham Girl. Hopefully they can complete the sessions before Bane finds them!
This is the story arc I've been waiting for. Bane is putting Batman into a position where he will have to face Bane alone. No backup, no Catwoman to the rescue, just one on one. Let's do this! Sorry got excited.
And of course the art was on point once again. There's a two page spread of Batman perched on a rooftop that is so well done. The detail on everything from the bricks and tiles on the buildings to the shading on Batman is perfect. Love it.
