Green Lanterns #17

Writer: Sam Humphries

Surrendering of the Gun:

The Green Lanterns continue to help Batman figure out how the Yellow Light is being pumped out through the internet. Scarecrow forces Simon to face his fears, where he overcomes them and realizes he doesn't need his gun. The issue ends with Batman telling Simon that he is the Lantern he has been waiting for; one he can work with. Next Issue: The Last Testament of the First Lantern.

The Confessional:

This is the final issue in this two issue arc, and while Batman didn't tell Simon that he was right in thinking that Scarecrow was behind the attacks he did something better, told Simon that he is the Lantern he can work with… wait… doesn't Batman already work with Simon on the Justice League? What exactly does this mean, will Batman recruit Simon for one of his teams for the upcoming war, no he's already on the Justice League… I am not sure where this is going to go but I am excited to see where it can go. For an issue that seems to be all about Simon why is it that Jessica and Batman did all of the work to take down Scarecrow except for what looks like a spaceship construct that Simon made? Can we not have our duo actually work as a team in their own book? Sam Humphries you have written better and can do better, if you wanted to write a book where Simon faced his issues you could have done it without Batman being in the issue. I was super excited for a Batman Green Lantern team up and as a team up this fell flat. The only redeeming factor for this issue was the art, this art team is fantastic and I have nothing negative to say about their work.
