New Queen in Town

In an interesting turn of events, mild mannered Velma is now WARRIOR QUEEN OF MONSTERWORLD! Seeing Velma and a sexy Game of Thrones outfit is super bizarre to me. Daphne should’ve been a lot nicer to Velma in the beginning, because now Daph is going to loose her friends and her skin (literally). Against the wishes of their Humantown commander; Fred, Scoobs, and Shaggy head out to Velma’s village to try and save Daphne. There they meet their untimely fates…or have they? The only way to find out is to pick up this book!

The Confessional

I’m really liking this turn of events. I thought Velma was going to turn into a monster…well I guess in a way she has. I also feel a little guilty for feeling like Daph is kind of getting what she deserved for being so nasty all the time to Velma. Maybe it’s just the inner bookworm in me that wants to side with Velma. I really loved the art in this issue. I’m a sucker for the more realistically drawn features in a comic. It was fun for me to see this strapping young man be a complete sissy-lala. Fred, I’m talking about Fred. I have to say this comic is making me think about to the hundreds of hours I watched Scooby as a kid, and wonder if I ever really liked Fred and Daphne? As I finish up the issue I’m torn between being upset and feeling like “oh haha, you got me Keith Giffen and Dematteis,” I should have known because the time leap seemed off. This has probably been close to the top three issues in the overall arc. The writers have definitely taken each one of these characters to the brink of who they are. But doing so with adding dimension and close to real life characteristics that make the characters have more depth to them. This whole series deserves an Oprah sticker.
