Batgirl and the Birds of Prey #8
New Oracle Gus, Batgirl, and Nightwing are running around town trying to track down Gemini. Gemini takes Nightwing off guard by shape shifting into Batman. This gives her a head start in the fight, and Nightwing is struck down. But no worries because a little late to the party the Birds of Prey show up. With the girls working together they are able to run off Gemini and get Nightwing to safety. I guess for now they are going to ignore Gus’s totally shady behavior. Anyways, in order to figure out who this mysterious Blackbird is, Canary is going to go undercover as a meta looking for training. Meanwhile, Gemini has to bring her failure to Blackbird, and Blackbird doesn’t deal with failure lightly.
My excitement to be able to see Nightwing and Batgirl interact again has me jumping in my chair. Ex-lovers and now friends whenever these two are together it’s just a dynamic team up. I’d be all for them getting back together, too bad for spray paint girl ruining this fantasy. Even Babs looked pretty disappointed in Nightwing having a new love interest. Other than those two, I really like the growing relationship between the girls. All are so very different and you can see that they are really starting to care for one another. As a girl comic reader it’s just really great to see powerful, beautiful woman working together and kicking ass. This goes across the whole D.C universe. Blackbird is an awesome antagonist! Having metas at your disposal makes you a fierce enemy. Julie and Shawna Benson are doing a really great job of weaving this fluid story while maintain an air of mystery around it.
