Batman Beyond #6

Writer: Dan Jurgens
Art: Bernard Chang
Color: Marcelo Maiolo

The Coming of Curaré...

The issue starts off with a rooftop chase between who we find out to be the League of Assassins and Curaré. They shoot a few arrows and she throws some kick ass ninja stars before jumping off the roof onto a passing car. Cars fly in the future so she didn't fall far. I love the way the League of Assassins is drawn here. They look more like Samurai’s with evil looking Samurai masks. Well done.

Changes...

Now we are in the Batcave where Bruce Wayne is being welcomed back (he was presumed dead) and he is the same old grumpy Bruce Wayne. He even makes a comment about how the cave never used to be a hangout for friends and family. Um... what about the Bat family back in the day? Maybe he tries to forget I don't know. I'm sure he'll get used to this new family.

But will Dana get used to Terry being Batman? Well maybe she won't have to. She and Terry have a talk about everything that has happened and how he's been lying to her this whole time. He basically says he's not even sure if he wants to be Batman if he can't balance it with friends and family. Come. Who doesn't want to be Batman?!

In Need of Help...

While this is going on Commissioner (Barbara) Gordon is met on the roof by Curaré who asks for Gordon's help to find Batman because she needs to speak with him. But Curaré is being chased by the League of Assassins and of course they track her down. A fight breaks out and the League of Assassins are kicking ass. Finally, after trying and trying, Gordon plugs in the Bat Signal only for Terry to see it and shrug it off. BOO! Terry's thinking with his Bat-Mite and not his brain. Tisk tisk. I would have thought Terry would be past these kinds of thoughts.

At one point we also see Bruce talking to Terry's little brother Matt who tells him about the suit they found to give to Terry. This doesn't sit well with Bruce who says it was a prototype and could get Terry killed. Interesting...

The Confessional:

At first I thought this issue was just okay but upon reading it a second time I've actually come to quite enjoy it. It has a little bit of everything. We get some fights with the League of Assassins, the return of classic Bruce Wayne, some relationship drama and questions that need answers.

Like what's up with the new Batsuit? Why is the League back? Will Terry smarten up and want to be Batman like everyone else? Other than Terry having seconds thoughts about being Batman, everything else was great. The art is well done as well. I love the way the League looks. Keep it coming!
