Titans Annual

Writer: Dan Abnett
Art: Minkyu Jung
Colors: Adriano Lucas
Letters: Carlos M. Mangual

Unlocking Secrets:

Members of the Titans and Justice League wake up in a strange place, where Key is trying to break them down to steal their mental energies to open a door to allow a bigger bad out. Will the Titans and Justice League be able to work together to get out of this mess or will Key break them?

The Confessional:

Let's start with art, quite frankly I didn't think anyone could do the Titans justice except Brett Booth, then here comes Minkyu Jung to prove me wrong! Let's step outside of just the Titans for a second too, seeing as we are playing with two groups of heroes, the art of the Justice League members are far superior in this book over that of the Justice League’s book (Dear DC please have Minkyu do art on Justice League?). I mean the detail is insane, all the action sequences are flawless, and the way the Flashes are drawn… beautiful!!! Okay, so I'm not to sure if this is a throw away story (Just an Annual story with no future mention of it/payoff) or not… like if it is I'll be a little upset because now I'm curious who Key was trying to release. There was a HUGE reveal in this book too, Donna Troy’s origin, which a little research says her origins are almost as complicated as Wonder Woman's, if you've read the NEW 52 it may not be too much of a huge reveal, but for those of you who just jumped on at Rebirth it is. What's funny is it still took me by surprise, I mean we still don't know what the true origin of Wonder Woman is, but from the beginning of Donna Troy her origin has been linked directly to hers, so does that mean we have the New 52 origin of Wonder Woman as well? So, is it just me or does Dan Abnett not like the Justice League (except for maybe The Flash)? Like the spend the whole issue not trusting the Titans and in the end the Titans show them how their team dynamic seems to be a better way… and why does it take Wonder Woman so long to believe that Donna wasn't a fake… all in all the Justice League has trust issues which is why Titans team are superior in my mind (besides being better written). Now we also have the rest of both teams searching for the missing members with no luck, until Donna’s meltdown after learning her origin, which also showed Batman where the exit was due to the power surge Donna’s mental energies gave. Both sets of teams converge on Key and our lost heroes escaped. I. NEED. MORE. This team up was fantastic and would love to see more Justice League and Titans team ups written by Abnett.

All and all as an annual this was the best one I've read all Rebirth, again I just hope the story actually goes somewhere and doesn't just turn out to be like a one shot.

High Holy: ★★★★★★★★☆☆ 8/10
