The Flash #20

Writer: Joshua Williamson
Artists: Neil Googe

Don’t Fall Down the Rabbit Hole

Starting a new arc, we find out that Godspeed’s victims bodies have been stolen from their graves. Iris West dives in deep to find out what is really going on. After a secret gets loose Iris is now suspicious of even her beloved Barry Allen. As if Barry doesn’t have enough to deal with…especially considering who we find out has been leading Black Hole this whole time.

Same Story, Different Writer

I feel like I’ve been here a million times. The unfolding story of the significant other discovering her lover’s secret. First they learn their SO has been lying about working late, next I’m sure we will see her snooping in Barry’s life, finally, we will get the unveiling. Eventually, Iris will know the Flash is Barry Allen and will be hurt at first, but then come to understand why he lied. With the Watchmen plot being teased at the end, I feel like there should have been a different story leading up to it. Even the reveal that a good guy is actually a bad guy seems redundant.

So, What?

Last issue we were finishing up with the whole Wally West discovering his father arc. It felt like a clumsy jump from that story to this one. Maybe they should’ve added a buffer issue to have a smoother transition? The only real part of this book I was intrigued by was that ‘Batman and the Button’ teaser at the end. So now we know that the Flash book will start to address long standing Watchmen questions. What will that mean for this Black Hole dilemma?
