Batgirl and the Birds of Prey #10

Writer: Julie & Shawna Benson
Artists: Roge Antonio
Colors: Allen Passalaqua & John Rauch

The Birds are on the search for their beloved Canary. Canary is trapped under Blackbird's thieving thumb, will she be able to escape? Read to find out if the caged bird truly sings...

It’s Hypnotizing

With some help from Green Arrow and Nightwing, the team is able to hone in on Canary’s location, and are desperately trying to track down their friend. Blackbird is as powerful as ever; she’s absorbed a mind controller’s power, and now has Dinah along with another student under her spell. With the help of Gemini and fake Oracle, they learn the key to stopping Blackbird is to form a powerful psychic bond. An easy task since there’s nothing but love among them. With Blackbird weakened, Bab’s is able to get Dinah back in control. Together they take down the Bird. This town’s only big enough for one bird-associated person or group. Meanwhile, we get another glimpse into the super shady dealings of fake oracle.

What Did You Do?

Seriously, Nightwing, what did you do? I adore him, but he was no help to this situation until the very end. And even then all he did was offer Gemini a second chance. It made me laugh to think that he was just added to the story, because the more heroes you have, the cooler it is. Either way this was a fantastic read. Every issue we get a stronger understanding of the bond between the girls, and it makes you care about them even more. Not only that, but we finally get a teaser for who this new oracle really is. The art has this rushed, dramatic feel to it, and I love it. It suits the tone, and every time one of the girls is in the frame, they really pop with color.

Sum it Up!

A perfect conclusion to the Blackbird arc. It had everything I could want… every character gets a resolution, and they used their bonds to purge forward valiantly. This a book you should be reading, because each issue brings a little mystery, action, compassion, and good storytelling to the table. They tease you just enough without it getting gratuitous. I know with the Benson sisters finally getting into the new oracle storyline, it’s going to be an enjoyable ride.
