Nightwing, The New Order # 1

Writer: Kyle Higgins
Art: Trevor McCarthyColors: Dean White

“A future world without “weapons”—where superpowers have been eliminated and outlawed. The man responsible? None other than Dick Grayson, a.k.a. Nightwing, now leader of a government task force called the Crusaders who are charged with hunting the remaining Supers. But when events transpire which turn the Crusaders’ aim toward Grayson’s own family, the former Boy Wonder must turn against the very system he helped create, with help from the very people he’s been hunting for years—the last metahumans of the DC Universe.”

A New World

A much older and more profound Nightwing is hunting down a man who hasn’t taken his medications in a while, this man is Arthur Light and the meds are to keep his powers in check. Oh did I mention the first couple pages show us a world in which Nightwing has taken out all of the Superheroes, yeah. That’s right Dick is in charge of the Crusaders and together they stop any super abilities or people from, well living.

A Change is a Comin’

Dick has to deal with the choices his made, even if Alfred and his own son can’t quite coop with them. He blew up something that got rid of 90% or the world’s super powers, and those still with them either take medication or are locked away…. but what is going to happen when his own child develops powers?

Sum it Up

These future stories are getting a little weird for me. I like that the narration is through Nightwing’s son, and its more of a reminiscent that live narrative. It’s all a little unbelievable, and you can’t help but wonder where this story fits with everything else: or if it’s an other worlds story? IT was a good read, just left me a little dazed I guess.
